Inside the cabin, you’ll find plenty of cheap materials. Moreover, the engine is noisy, soundproofing is terrible, build quality is subpar, and reliability rating is disappointing as well.
Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid: $40,685 - $63,555
While the 2024 Pacifica starts at $40,685, the hybrid version of the minivan has a starting tag of $54,825. The Pacifica Hybrid makes 260 horsepower from its 3.6-liter V6 engine and two electric motors backed by a 16.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
Though it ticks all the boxes you might want a family minivan to tick, it sadly isn't reliable. With a reliability rating of just 14, the Pacifica Hybrid is the least reliable vehicle of 2024 as per Consumer Reports. It has issues with the battery, electric charging, electric motors, and in-car electronics.
Toyota Mirai: $51,215 - $68,180
The 2023 Toyota Mirai certainly turns heads with its stunning design. It has an impressive performance, luxurious interior, and zero-carbon footprint. The problem is that it’s still not the car you should consider buying. Why? Well, it’s just too far ahead of its time.
The Mirai uses hydrogen fuel cells and due to limited availability of hydrogen refueling stations, it’s almost impractical to own this car. The US, for instance, has less than a hundred such stations, majority of which are concentrated around major cities of California. It means you can only use this car in one state, and that too in a restricted area.
Volkswagen Taos: $25,420 - $34,940
If the Volkswagen Taos slipped your mind, you're not alone. And after this reminder, you might just forget about it again because it's not exactly a standout. Though it has excellent fuel efficiency and boasts a spacious cabin and trunk, it falls short in terms of interior quality and driving dynamics.
More importantly, it's the second least reliable car of 2024, with a reliability score of just 18 from Consumer Reports, thanks to a number of problem areas ranging from brakes to transmission, and engine to in-car electronics.
Mini Cooper Electric: $31,895 - $36,700
Retaining the iconic styling that we all love and cherish, the Mini Cooper Electric swaps out the traditional three-cylinder engine for an electric powertrain. It handles well and is one of the cheapest EVs on the market today.
Unfortunately, when it comes to range, the hot hatch falls short compared to other affordable electric options. Its 28.9 kWh battery pack only offers a modest 110 miles on a full charge. Rivals like the Chevrolet Bolt EV and Nissan Leaf can go nearly twice as far on a single charge.
Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV: $45,440 - $50,935
The Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV features a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine combined with a rear electric motor to churn out 285 horsepower. Despite this decent output, the Tonale's road manners are somewhat disappointing. The steering lacks feedback from the road, and the body motions are not as well-controlled.
Moreover, the powertrain feels lacking near top speed. Despite its long-awaited debut, the Tonale arrives at a time when the subcompact SUV segment has advanced with better offerings that easily outclass it.
Ford F-150 Hybrid: $38,565 - $84,495
The hybrid variant of the Ford F-150 boasts a robust 400-hp powertrain, powered by an electric motor and a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine. It has a driving range of 700 miles per tank and has enough power to supply electricity during outages or work as an onboard generator at job sites.
Reliability, however, is a major area where it lacks. With a dismal reliability score of 19, the F-150 Hybrid is the third least reliable car in 2024 as per Consumer Reports. The pickup is plagued with numerous problem areas spanning from transmission issues to electrical system malfunctions, battery troubles to drive system quirks, and even in-car electronics glitches.
Toyota bZ4X: $44,420 - $48,530
Toyota's first electric vehicle, the bZ4X offers a comfortable ride, spacious interior, and agile acceleration… but it has not been able to meet consumer expectations. The SUV has a disappointing highway range of 228 miles with AWD (or dual motors) and 252 miles with FWD (or single motor).
It also has limited brake-regen capability, oddly placed instrumentation including a complicated gear selector, and it charges slower than most rivals. The electric SUV segment is too competitive for the bZ4X to make its place.
Volvo XC60: $48,195 - $76,545
Despite our admiration for the Volvo XC60's sleek and elegant styling, it's not the vehicle to go for in 2024. According to Consumer Reports, the XC60 is one of the least reliable vehicles today. It has a reliability score of just 21 due to numerous trouble spots encompassing the battery, charging system, electrical accessories, climate control, and in-car electronics.
And while the XC60 does have an upscale cabin and agreeable engine choices, it also falls short in terms of storage space... and has a cumbersome Google-based infotainment system.
Rivian R1T: $80,800 - $82,850
Undeniably one of the most capable EVs on the market, the Rivian R1T boasts unrivaled speed, remarkable off-road capabilities and impressive towing prowess. However, despite these strengths, it's not without its flaws.
The R1T fails to cater to every budget and surprisingly misses Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, despite the premium price tag. More importantly, it scores a mere 22 on Consumer Reports' reliability scale due to a number of issues including climate control, drive system, and body hardware.
Nissan Pathfinder: $37,470 - $50,440
The 2024 Nissan Pathfinder is a reliable family hauler, but despite its rugged appearance, it lags behind the competition when it comes to off-road adventures. Even the Rock Creek Edition meant for off-roading has very limited capability.
The mid-size SUV has a practical cabin design, an impressive towing capacity, and a serene interior ambiance… but if you intend to venture off-road, you need to look elsewhere. In addition to that, its higher trims are pricier compared to similarly spec’d rivals.
Mercedes-Benz GLE: $63,800 - $87,850
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE has a potent engine, serene interior, supportive seats, and luxurious finishes. However, its reliability has taken a hit in recent years. In addition to that, the GLE has a cramped third-row space, a fiddly infotainment interface, finicky steering controls, and a somewhat stiff ride on larger wheels.
Furthermore, a significant investment is required to unlock the best features and enjoy the ride comfort synonymous with the brand. No wonder riders are opting for Audi Q7 and BMW X5 instead.

Featuring an affordable tag and ample cabin space, the Nissan Leaf comes with either a 147 or 214-hp electric motor. However, both models have a remarkably shorter range compared to the competitors. To make things even worse, the Leaf supports DC fast-charging limited to just 50 kW.
This combo of less range and long charging time means the buyers looking to undertake longer commutes understandably go for alternatives like the Hyundai Kona Electric and Chevrolet Bolt – both of which offer better driving range at a similar price point.
Lexus LX600: $93,915 - $134,490
The Lexus LX600 has a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine that generates 409 hp and 479 pound-feet of torque. The luxury SUV comes standard with four-wheel drive, 10-speed automatic transmission, a lavish cabin, and some genuine off-road capabilities. However, it is not without its drawbacks… which is unfortunate, considering the steep tag.
Surprisingly, the LX600 has limited third-row space for passengers as well as minimal luggage space behind the third row. And while it offers many high-end features, the rivals go even further.
Volkswagen Jetta: $22,660 - $30,050
The 2024 Volkswagen Jetta offers ample space for both passengers and cargo, but its driving experience may leave enthusiasts craving more excitement. Additionally, both the interior and the exterior lack style and flair.
While one may compromise on looks and performance due to Jetta’s enticingly low starting price and impressive fuel economy, reliability is yet another deal-breaker. With a rating of just 25, the Jetta is one of the least reliable vehicles to buy in 2024 as per Consumer Reports, with problems in the climate control system, brakes, electrical accessories, and in-car electronics.

Its interior is notoriously laden with hard plastics that give it a cheaper feel compared to rivals like the Toyota Highlander or Chevrolet Traverse. It’s also no stranger to reliability issues, spanning transmission, engine, interior electronics, and power equipment.
Cadillac XT4: $39,090 - $43,190
The Cadillac XT4 offers a spacious interior, appealing aesthetics, and generous tech features, but that’s unfortunately pretty much it. The subcompact luxury SUV has a firm ride with unathletic handling and a disappointing interior.

Jaguar E-Pace: $50,675
The Jaguar E-Pace comes with a 246-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine, paired with a 9-speed auto transmission and standard AWD. In terms of positives, the E-Pace surprises with its agility around corners. It ensures a quiet ride and has an upscale exterior styling.
However, there are many drawbacks to consider as well before you make up your mind to get it. The E-Pace is underpowered compared to rivals, its fuel efficiency is bad, and the rear seat is quite cramped for adults.
Mini Countryman: $33,645 - $43,695
The Mini Countryman offers three distinct powertrains - a 134-horsepower turbocharged three-cylinder engine, a more potent 189-horsepower turbo-four option, and finally, a plug-in hybrid model. It boasts cheeky retro styling and includes complimentary maintenance for three years.
However, on the downside, the Countryman doesn't capture the fun-spirited ethos of other Mini models and falls short in practicality compared to its competitors. It’s just that you have a lot of better options at this price tag!
Dodge Hornet: $32,995 - $37,995
Sporting a 268-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the Dodge Hornet derives much of its platform, interior, and even styling from the Alfa Romeo Tonale. It’s got power, it’s got driving dynamics, it’s got looks… but it’s short on cabin space.
The Hornet offers less space for both passengers and cargo when compared to rivals like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. Yes, it would have been a great vehicle in vacuum, but in real world, it gets outclassed by a number of rivals.
Maserati Ghibli: $110,995 - $166,495
Despite its steep price tag, the 2024 Maserati Ghibli doesn’t even get the basics right. It lacks in-car amenities, the rear space is tight, and the interior doesn’t feel worth a six-figure price car. The base trim is surprisingly under-powered as well.
All in all, despite its racing history and luxurious appeal, the 2024 Ghibli doesn't quite live up to expectations. Yes, we adore the stylish Italian design and the captivating exhaust sound, the Ghibli is easily outclassed by more luxurious offerings that cost much less.

The Equinox is the second best-selling Chevrolet nameplate after the Silverado… but that doesn't mean it’s a good vehicle as well. The sales are mainly due to its affordable pricing, ample passenger space, and comfortable driving experience.
Equipped with an underpowered 175-hp turbo four-cylinder engine, an unremarkable auto transmission, and an unintuitive optional AWD system, the compact SUV is beginning to show its age. It also has sluggish acceleration, uninspiring interior, and isn't spectacular by any means.
Genesis GV60: $53,350 - $70,900
Sharing its platform with the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Genesis GV60 packs a 77.4 kWh battery offering up to 321 miles of range. Buyers can opt for either a single-motor or dual-motor setup, delivering 225 hp and 429 hp, respectively.
The luxury EV features a stylish design, opulent cabin, and lively on-road demeanor. However, it has a steep price tag compared to models with similar performance. It also has limited cargo space and less range than rivals.
Jeep Compass: $27,495 - $35,490
Equipped with a robust 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, delivering 200 horses and 221 lb-ft of torque, the 2024 Jeep Compass comes standard with AWD.
Not just that, the Compass offers everything you may need for a capable performance in various conditions, but it falls short in terms of interior when compared to rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X1, and Audi Q3. Moreover, the 2024 Compass also suffers from numb steering and an overly sensitive brake pedal.

The 2024 Nissan Versa comes with a 122-hp four-cylinder engine powering the front wheels. While base models feature a five-speed manual transmission, the higher S trim is available with CVT as well. With a starting tag of $17,530, the Versa is one of the most affordable cars that you can get in 2024. It's also very fuel-efficient as well.
On the downsides, it is a bit underpowered (perfectly powered for the price, but underpowered overall) and lacks the spaciousness of its larger competitors. Moreover, the entry-level trim feels a bit too basic. All in all, you should only go for this subcompact when you’re seriously low on budget!

The Atlas is also one of the most budget-friendly three-row SUVs available today. However, like several other Volkswagen models, the Atlas grapples with reliability issues. It also has underwhelming acceleration and comparatively lower fuel efficiency compared to rivals.
Acura RDX: $45,700 - $53,045
Powered by a 272-hp turbo four, the RDX delivers fun driving dynamics, especially when paired with Acura's dynamic AWD system. It may not provide the same level of luxury as the BMW X3 or Porsche Macan, but it has a much lower tag and comes with a long list of standard features.
On the downsides, the RDX has a clunky transmission, an unrefined brake pedal, a finicky touchpad interface, and an interior that comes close to but falls short of luxury.

The 2024 Fiat 500e has a lot of things going for itself. Its compact size makes it incredibly easy to maneuver through tight urban spaces… and its adorable, fashion-forward design brings back the charm of its iconic predecessor.
However, the 500e's driving range of 140–150 miles is one of the worst in class. If that’s not enough to hold you back from falling to the charm of this two-door hatchback, its rear seat is too small and the ride quality is too stiff.
Infiniti Q50: $44,200 - $58,050
The Infiniti Q50 packs up to 400 horses… besides commanding attention with its sleek and well-drawn exterior. However, it struggles to keep pace with modern competitors.
The Q50's interior is outdated – both in terms of material and technology. And even though the engine is promising, the handling does not live up to expectations, resulting in a somewhat jittery ride. Buyers are simply better off with fresher alternatives like the Genesis G70, the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
Jaguar I-Pace: $73,375
The Jaguar I-Pace continues to captivate with its striking design, engaging driving dynamics, and a refined interior that comes loaded with plenty of niceties including performance seats, cross-stitched leather in vibrant colors, and a Meridian sound system.
However, the I-Pace isn't without its drawbacks. The brake pedal feel can be uneven at low speeds, and both the charging time and estimated range lag behind newer competitors. The fact is people buy this thing for passion… otherwise the spec sheet is too short to convince a buyer willing to spend north of $70k.
Lexus RC: $45,920 - $53,470
The Lexus RC offers an upscale, luxurious, and quiet cabin at an attractive base price. It can be a good luxury tourer for two, but for those prioritizing passenger space or genuine sporting capability, alternatives like the BMW 4 Series or Audi A5 are clearly the way to go.
The RC’s dated chassis and engines can simply not stand up to the livelier, more advanced powertrains and sharper dynamics of its European competition. Its below-average fuel economy doesn’t help its cause either.
Maserati Levante: $103,495 - $189,495
The Levante is a class apart when it comes to power or luxury. Under the hood, you have either a V6 or V8… with the latter offering up to 572 horses. Inside, you get a unique leather-and-silk upholstery option designed in conjunction with Ermenegildo Zegna.
But even a six-figure vehicle has its cons. For starters, the six-figure starting tag is itself a huge downside that literally puts it in an exotic niche apart from the rest of the luxury SUVs. Moreover, you will expect a car so expensive to have a spacious cabin… but it surprisingly doesn’t offer that.
Mini Cooper Clubman JCW: $43,395 - $51,395
A more practical version of the Mini Cooper JCW, the Clubman JCW features a spirited 302-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine… and the same retro-cute face the brand is known for. In addition to the punchy performance, the Cooper JCW’s compact body and sporty chassis offer an engaging driving experience.
Still, it’s not without its downsides. Despite boasting a more spacious interior than the classic three-door Mini, it falls short against competitors like the Honda Civic Type R and Volkswagen Golf R in overall space. The ride is unpleasantly stiff… and the sticker is too steep.
Lexus RC F: $68,295 - $101,170
With a 472-hp naturally aspirated V8, a limited-slip rear differential, Brembo brakes, an adaptive suspension, and a number of other tweaks… the RC F starts where the RC ends. In addition to the thumping powertrain, it also offers a comfortable, upscale, and absolutely quiet interior.
Its performance, however, still lags behind its European competitors such as the Audi RS5 and BMW M4. Other downsides include a cramped rear seat and trunk, an outdated infotainment system, and sub-optimal handling due to excessive weight.
Audi S5: $58,595 - $74,295
With a robust 349-hp twin-turbo V6 under the hood, the Audi S5 provides a significant upgrade over the standard A5. The 2024 Ford Edge delivers a smooth and comfortable ride with a spacious two-row interior that makes it ideal for small families or those who prioritize passenger and cargo room. For those who want more excitement, the ST model offers a powerful 335-hp twin-turbo V6.
However, the Edge's aging design and mediocre fuel economy from its base four-cylinder engine make it less competitive in a segment crowded with more modern and better-equipped rivals. Moreover, the high sticker price doesn’t help its case either.
Mitsubishi Mirage: $18,015 - $20,215
The Mitsubishi Mirage is a puny subcompact hatchback that offers remarkable fuel efficiency, an impressive warranty, and plenty of standard tech features… including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
It’s the cheapest car on the market… and everything about this car reminds you of that. The Mirage's 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine can barely produce 78 horsepower, resulting in a lethargic and unrefined ride. The interior is filled with the cheapest possible materials… and is equally disappointing.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio: $47,545 - $59,245
Charismatic styling, impressive agility, a punchy turbo-four engine, and a smooth eight-speed transmission – the Alfa Romeo Stelvio appears to offer it all. But it’s still not worth buying due to a number of reasons.
For starters, it has a cramped rear room as well as a limited cargo space. Its appeal is also diminished by an outdated infotainment system and not-so-premium interior materials, especially when compared to rivals like the Genesis GV70 (which also happens to be more affordable).
Toyota Venza: $36,520 - $44,665
The 2024 Toyota Venza stands out with its striking European-inspired design and thrifty hybrid powertrain… that easily outpaces rivals like the Honda Passport and Nissan Murano in efficiency. It also packs a lot of quirks, including an electrochromic panoramic sunroof. But that’s pretty much it.
The Venza struggles with interior space and has a buzzy engine. To make matters worse, it faces stiff competition from not just outside but from Toyota's own RAV4 Hybrid.
2025 Hyundai Nexo: $63,000 est
The Nexo is one of the three hydrogen-powered electric vehicles currently on sale in the US. All three are only sold in California due to unavailability of hydrogen refueling infrastructure in other states.
A unique alternative to traditional EVs, the Nexo boasts fast refueling and zero emissions – as its only byproduct is water. It also has a spacious interior and an impressive 380-mile range… But since you can't use this vehicle outside California, it’s not something you should go for, at least now. The steep tag is yet another reason.
2025 Infiniti QX50: $44,350 - $52,550
The 2025 Infiniti QX50 offers a refined ride and a spacious, comfortable interior that makes it an appealing option for luxury SUV shoppers. But unfortunately, it struggles to compete with newer rivals that boast superior performance and a more dynamic driving experience.
In addition to its lackluster performance, the QX50's appeal is also greatly diminished by its unrefined engine noises. The BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC Class, and Genesis GV70 are better in almost every way.
2025 GMC Sierra HD: $48,295 - $94,795
The 2024 GMC Sierra HD offers rugged styling and exceptional towing capabilities, boasting a max 36,000 pounds capacity with the right configuration. The Denali trims offer ultra-luxurious, leather-clad interiors with plenty of tech.
However, the top trims can get wildly expensive, and competitors like the Ford Super Duty and Ram HD offer even greater towing capacity. Those seeking a better value might consider the Chevy Silverado HD, which shares the same underpinnings without the premium pricing of GMC's luxury-laden variants.
2025 Cadillac XT5: $45,690 - $58,590
With plenty of room for both passengers and cargo, the XT5 is practical for families and road trips alike. Its bold edgy exterior also helps it stand out in a highly crowded segment.
However, its performance trails behind the competition and its interior feels disjointed, with almost no luxury appeal when compared to the top contenders in the class. The fact is, this luxury SUV has failed to keep pace with newer, more refined rivals after eight years on the market with minimal updates.
2025 Land Rover Discovery Sport: $50,175 - $54,375
Carrying the brand's rugged heritage, the Land Rover Discovery Sport can tackle any terrain… while offering a comfortable, well-equipped cabin. But it has started to show its age.
Having been around since 2015 with only minor updates, the Discovery Sport struggles with sluggish acceleration and lacks competitive fuel economy. Yes, its off-road prowess is still matchless… but that alone isn't enough to compete against the likes of the Porsche Macan, the Mercedes GLC, and the Genesis GV70.
2025 Infiniti QX55: $51,500 - $60,000
Based on the QX50, the QX55 inherits a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that isn't admirable in any way… but is fairly competent in corners. The compact SUV also stands out with its shapely design and generous standard features.
In addition to the uninspiring powertrain, the QX55's efficiency is subpar and the infotainment system is outdated compared to competitors. Rivals like the Audi Q5 Sportback, BMW X4, and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe deliver superior performance and a more modern interior.
2025 Lexus ES: $43,215 - $53,505
Lexus's best-selling sedan, the 2024 ES shines with its quiet and comfortable interior, decent suspension, and plenty of standard equipment. It also offers a range of powertrains, including a thrifty hybrid model.
But unfortunately, even the most potent trim can’t satisfy those seeking a sportier driving experience. Additionally, the inability to fold the rear seats limits cargo flexibility. Moreover, the presence of Camry for about $10k less with a lot of the same features further worsens the case for the ES.
2025 Audi S4: $55,995 - $62,595
Boasting an attractive exterior, a well-crafted interior, a potent turbocharged V6 engine, and impressive cornering abilities, the 2025 Audi S4 delivers the perfect mix of luxury and performance.
It’s, however, not as lively as the BMW M340i and Mercedes-AMG C43… and leaves enthusiasts wanting more despite the premium tag. The S4’s passenger space is also smaller than average for the class… and its abrupt brake response further reduces its appeal.
2025 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell: $51,350
Like the Mirai and the Nexo, the CR-V Fuel Cell (or e:FCEV) can only be used in California due to lack of hydrogen refueling stations elsewhere. This reason alone is enough to avoid this car… but if you are willing to overlook it, you’ll still have a hard time getting your hands on one, as Honda will be making just 300 units per year.
Although cheaper than the Nexo, the CR-V Fuel Cell is still extremely expensive. It’s also marred with poky acceleration and limited cargo area due to the hydrogen storage system.
2025 Buick Enclave: $46,395 - $59,395
The Buick Enclave shines with its advanced tech, remarkably quiet ride, and a spacious cabin – all of which make it a family-friendly three-row luxury SUV. However, it lacks the opulence of competitors… and falls short in handling dynamics.
The entire lineup is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder that fails to add excitement to the ride. As a matter of fact, the Enclave doesn’t even come close to its luxurious rivals from BMW, Volvo, and Mercedes-Benz.
2025 Cadillac XT6: $50,590 - $62,090
A stylish alternative in the crowded mid-size luxury SUV segment, the 2025 Cadillac XT6 is fairly equipped and has a handsome exterior, characterized by sharp lines and a striking front fascia.
But it offers underwhelming performance, from both its 2.0-liter turbo-four and 3.6-liter V6 engine options. The third row is cramped, and the cabin flaunts less-than-premium materials… despite the premium tag. The presence of better-executed rivals further worsens things for it.
2025 Buick Envision: $37,895 - $47,595
An appealing choice for those seeking luxury on budget, the 2025 Buick Envision boasts a spacious cabin, an upscale exterior, and a comfortable ride… along with a highly competitive sticker price.
But unfortunately, the Envision attains its desirable tag with a lot of compromises. Its turbocharged four-cylinder engine lacks the pep and driver engagement found in competitors, its cabin is one of the noisiest in class, and its interior shouts budget more than it says luxury.
