The Real Height Of Hollywood’s Tallest Stars
When watching your favorite actors on the screen, it can be so hard to judge just how tall they really are. Are they five feet tall or six feet tall? While around 14.5% of the American male population is over six feet tall, they aren't all in Hollywood. That means only a fraction of the men in your favorite TV shows and movies are towering above the rest. Here are the tallest men in Hollywood. Some of their heights might catch you by surprise...
Sacha Baron Cohen: 6'3"
Borat might have been one of the most polarizing comedies of it's era. The British actor and comedian, Sacha Baron Cohen, played the role brilliantly and didn't pull any punches. What makes it even funnier is that he's a 6'3" guy doing all these wild things.
Very nice! Cohen is married to Isla Fisher, who is only 5'3". The same woman Vince Vaughn skied over when he played her love interest in The Wedding Crashers.
Keanu Reeves: 6'1"
The stardom of Keanu Reeves stems back to the days of him doing the limbo extremely low to the ground so that he could dodge bullets (The Matrix). Now, his fans are kept happy by his performance as John Wick in the same-titled film series.
For an action star, Reeves has a lot of height. If you're comparing him to others like Tom Cruise or Mark Wahlberg, that is. Reeves is 6'1" tall and still delivering great films after all these years.
Dr. Dre: 6'2"
Andre Romelle Young, or Dr. Dre, is a rapper, producer, and entrepreneur. The multi-talented musician came to fame thanks to his high-quality production skills and determined personality. His former group NWA was one of the most successful rap acts of all time.
Once he started his solo journey, Dre only got bigger. He eventually launched Beats by Dre, a headphone that is supposed to be the best there is because he carefully designed them with his amazing ear for music. Dre is 6'2".
Jim Carey: 6'2"
Comedian Jim Carey has been around for quite some time now. You've probably noticed by now that he always seems to be a step above his co-stars. And we don't mean that figuratively. He's literally been a foot taller than some of the people he has worked with.
On many occasions, the 6'2" Carey might be the tallest actor in the room. That certainly was the case when he worked with Carla Gugino in Mr. Popper's Penguins.
Harrison Ford: 6'1"
Not only is Harrison Ford a fictional hero in the movies he plays in, but he is also a real life saver. He recently helped a woman during an accident who veered off the side of the road.
Local police officers said, "he acted as a good Samaritan, just like everybody else, and tried to help before emergency services arrived." So not only has the 6'1" actor saved lives on screen, but he also does so in his free time.
Drake: 6'0"
Not only does Drake have one of the best stage presences in the music business, but it helps a little too that he's 6'0". That's right, Drake isn't as tall as many of his peers and in fact, he pretty much looks over a lot of people he collaborates with.
Outside of J. Cole, Jay-Z and Dr. Dre, who we mentioned earlier, Drake doesn't need to look up to any other rappers like he used to as a young aspiring artist.
Jason Segal: 6'4"
If you haven't had the chance to see the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall, then we highly suggest you add that to your queue. In it, you'll see Jason Segel star alongside Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis. Both play a love interest for the heartbroken Segel so you get to see how much Segel is a skyscraper over Kunis (5'4") and Kristen (5'1").
Segel is 6'4". Now you can keep that in mind whenever he looks awkwardly taller than you thought he was.
Conan O'Brien: 6'4"
Many nights on Conan's late night show, you hardly notice just how tall the talk show host is. For one, she sits down a lot so that eliminates giving fans a full shot at recognizing his height. His guests are usually comfortably seated as well, so you can't compare all the time either.
This could explain why there were reports of him being 6'8". He jokingly responded to those claims as follows: "I'm not radioactive. I’m not growing out of control. I’m 6'4"."
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson: 6'5"
As if Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson wasn't already a huge enough figure. It makes complete sense that the former wrestler would be 6'5"! How else was he picking people up and giving them the "Rock Bottom" finisher?
If The Rock weren't as charming and funny that he is now, then it would be a different story for him. Imagine having some brute walking around at all the A-list celebrity parties looking for some trouble. It's like the blockbuster hit maker has it all figured out.
Liam Neeson: 6'4"
There's no doubt Liam Neeson was an intimidating figure when he played in the Taken films. A guy with a deep voice telling you he will find you in a completely different country has to strike fear in anyone's heart no matter how much of a villain they are.
Then when he finds you, you see that not only was he not joking, but he's also 6'4"! The moral of the story here is that Neeson's height added an extra sense of dramatic effect to his roles.
John Mayer: 6'3"
When a young John Mayer saw Back to the Future and Michael J. Fox's guitar performance, he instantly fell in love with the instrument. Who would have known he'd become the huge star that he is today? The pop star from Connecticut doesn't think he's that tall, however.
In his song, 83, Mayer has lyrics that deem him "six feet small." It's tough to consider six feet anything, "small." In any case, Mayer stands at 6'3".
Vince Vaughn: 6'5"
Vince Vaughn brings a different type of comedy to the table. It's a dry sarcasm with a touch of self-deprecation. It fits him perfectly and worked perfectly in The Wedding Crashers, a movie that made Isla Fisher his love interest and also when you first really noticed his tall stature.
Fisher was tiny as she stood 5'3" next to a 6'5" man in a wedding tux. No wonder she was head over hills about him in the film. Height can often work as a sneaky advantage.
Nicholas Hoult: 6'3"
Don't think you've only just begun to notice the blue-eyed actor Nicholas Hoult thanks to his current roles. He's been in films since 1996, but it wasn't until his breakout role in X-Men did he begin to receive more limelight.
He's played the mutant Beast in the X-Men series since 2011. And what a perfect role for him since he's 6'3" tall! Not many may have known that about Hoult, but he breathes in a different air standing that tall.
Will Smith: 6'2"
Right away, fans had a firm grip on how tall Will Smith was since he towered over his Fresh Prince co-star Carlton (Alfonso Ribeiro). Aiming short jokes at him seemed like his favorite pastime. It doesn't help that Ribeiro is 5'6" while Smith stands at 6'2".
Uncoincidentally, Smith's height has helped with some of the roles he's played like Ali. Muhammad Ali and Smith are only one inch apart, so it made for a more realistic biopic film.
Snoop Dogg: 6'4"
Snoop Dogg, the west coast rap veteran has been around for some decades. Ever since his chart-topping debut album from the '90s, it seems that the Dogg hasn't been kicked out of the entertainment house yet. Some might argue he's only become more of an icon.
If you know Snoop Dogg, then you know what his favorite activity to do is one that involves smoke. The 6'4" artist probably has larger lungs than the majority of people as well.
Howard Stern: 6'5"
Howard Stern is a radio host who is known not to bite his tongue. In other words, you will know how he feels about a situation whether you like it or not. Although he might be straightforward, it doesn't mean he isn't funny.
The majority of Stern's remarks are rooted in comedy so that's also what makes his radio show so appealing. But because he is always in your ear and not in your face, would you have guessed he was 6'5" tall?
Jay-Z: 6'2"
Can you be a legend and still alive? Yes, Jay-Z is the walking proof. Jay-Z is from New York City where he grew up in the Marcy Projects located in the tough Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. He's revealed in his music that many of his friends didn't make it out alive and he's lucky that he's still even alive.
Perhaps his 6'2" height gave him a little advantage in the neighborhood as it could have been an intimidation factor. Whatever the case, we know Jay-Z has to look down at many of his peers.
Chris Hemsworth: 6'3"
As if we haven't seen enough shirtless scenes involving Chris Hemsworth. His toned body might serve as the ultimate distraction if you were trying to guess his height. The actor has dazzled in his roles as Thor, with his body serving as the perfect god-like mold.
All jokes aside, do you think he brings in some of his lady fans thanks to his sizzling body and 6'3" height? You would be a great person not to think that.
Ben Affleck: 6'4"
Not only does Ben Affleck have a strong body from his work as Batman, but it must have been easier looking over others as the caped crusader standing 6'4". His ex Jennifer Gardner was 5'8", so it looks like their three kids are going to have some height when they grow up.
Co-starring with Affleck must be a little daunting knowing that you have to look up to him during every dialogue. Okay, it probably isn't that bad, but you have to just recognize he's going to always be the tall friend among the group.
Edris Elba: 6'3"
It seems as the years go on, Edris Elba only continues to become more popular. Not too long ago, Elba wasn't this big name celeb who was immediately recognized. If you asked who Elba was back in 2008, chances are many wouldn't have known who the Englishman was.
Now, he's made quite a name for himself. The 6'3" actor even garnered attention in the news for being considered for the role of James Bond once Daniel Craig is all done.
Terry Crews: 6'3"
Did you know Terry Crews was once in the NFL? Defensive end Terry Crews was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in 1991. He played for various teams like the Chargers, Eagles, and Redskins before retiring in 1997. It wasn't until he left football that Crews pursued acting.
Being 6'3" must have only helped in his endeavors on the football field without a doubt. Of course, after football didn't go as planned, Crews found himself doing more acting and eventually becoming the man he is today.
Clint Eastwood: 6'4"
You might consider Clint Eastwood to be one of the tallest Hollywood legends around. He's won four Oscars, played in films and directed them for over 60 years and isn't afraid to share his opinion.
The 6'4" renaissance man is well-known for his westerns like The Outlaw Josey Wales and his drama Million Dollar Baby. One thing that you might not know about him unless you've met him is that he is a mighty 6'4".
Will Ferrell: 6'3"
Are the antics and jokes Will Ferrell cracks are funnier because he's taller than your average actor? His outbursts seem to be a bit more ridiculous since he's 6'3" screaming things like "I drive a Dodge Stratus!" And the fact that he played the tallest 'Santa's little helper' you've ever seen in Elf makes us believe he uses his height for a comedic advantage.
The former seven-year Saturday Night Live cast member is also known for his role from Anchorman, which he surprisingly had to pitch the idea to DreamWorks 20 times because they didn't think it would be a good idea.
Jason Momoa: 6'4"
If Lisa Bonet ever wants a piggyback ride, then she has the best husband for the job. Jason Momoa is a whole foot and two inches taller than Bonet! Momoa started to gain broad appeal from Game of Thrones, but since then he's been tearing up the screen as a great star.
He looks just like a superhero, so it's no surprise he made it on as a member of the Justice League. This hero stands at 6'4" inches.
Armie Hammer: 6'5"
Being tall isn't always an advantage, especially in Hollywood. The Lone Ranger star Armie Hammer pretty much towers over anyone he stands next to. Luckily, he married Elizabeth Chambers (right) who isn't particularly short but she still lacks some inches to her husband.
''This (my height) kept me from getting jobs for a long time," the 6'5" Hammer said. "I was too tall to play the young version of whoever, too big for this and that and too tall to stand next to whoever."
Tyler Perry: 6'5"
Tyler Perry is the man who so famously gained notoriety by dressing up and acting as a woman many know as Madea. Perry has a whole film franchise based around different concepts starring Madea, an elderly African American grandma with a ton of sass.
It must be a littl more difficult playing a woman when you skyrocket over the average height of most ladies. Perry is 6'5". Not many on this list are even that tall.
Dolph Lundgren: 6'5"
Dolph Lundgren might not look too familiar to you unless you enjoy a certain type of film. Lundgren earned his big break when he became the bodyguard for Grace Jones. Jones was working on A View To Kill and brought in Lundgren for a small role.
This role led to Rocky IV considerations. At first, he was turned down because he was too tall at 6'5". Then, the producers changed their mind and elected to make him Ivan Drago, the man who kills Apollo Creed in the ring.
Peter Mayhew: 7'3"
To know Star Wars is to know the iconic characters as well. Yoda, Darth Vader, and Obi-Wan are some of the most popular. One that always stands out is Chewbacca, the tall and fun-loving creature from a galaxy far away.
Peter Mayhew, who is 7'3", saw a picture of Chewbacca and decided to audition for the part. He had already played a Minotaur in another film, so he figured why not. Once he stood up and greeted George Lucas and Gary Kurtz, he got the job.
Denzel Washington: 6'1"
There are a few legendary stars on this list, and Denzel Washington is one of them. He's captivated a countless number of audiences through his performances on screen (Remember the Titans, John Q) and he's done it all while being 6'1".
He might not appear to be six feet tall on the screen but rest assured he is. Next time you have a chance to catch one of his films, be sure to pay attention to how many others he's taller than.
Brad Garrett: 6'8"
Some stars on this list used their height to their advantage to get their big breaks or land roles. Brad Garrett who is 6'8" didn't depend on his monstrous height to get parts he wanted. His height did, however, help him garner attention from others while he was an up-and-coming comedian.
At just 23, he was one of the youngest stand-up acts to grab a spot on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Everybody loves Garrett, or is it Raymond?
James Cromwell: 6'7"
James Cromwell has one of those familiar faces. He's the actor that you might see on the magazine or online and think to yourself, "he sure does look familiar, but where do I know him from?"
The 6'7" actor has been in I, Robot, The Sum of All Fears, Babe, and L.A. Confidential to name a few. He is technically the tallest actor ever to be nominated for an Academy Award and winning for Best Supporting Actor in Babe.
Josh Duhamel: 6'4"
Once upon a time, Fergie and Josh Duhamel were split up but got back together again not too long after. They say their relationship is the best it's been since the split. That's great because the pictures of him standing so much taller than her are priceless.
The actor who is 6'4" dwarfs his lady who is only 5'4". When he isn't acting in movies like Transformers or Las Vegas, he's more than likely tending to his child.
Joel McHale: 6'4"
Fans of Community will enjoy this familiar face. Joel McHale made many laugh in the past and continues to do so now, but only on Netflix this time. He hosts The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale.
Being a talk show host, many times there are segments involved that require to stand next to the show's guests. Naturally, whenever the 6'4" McHale does this, he stands taller than many of his guests on the show.
Jeff Goldblum: 6'4"
Not many in the business can keep it going for as long as Jeff Goldblum has. With a successful career that has spanned over four decades, there just doesn't seem to be an end in sight for the tall actor.
Goldblum is 6'4". Some of his most recent films include Thor: Ragnarok and Isle of Dogs. Fans will have to be patient for his next role, as we can only imagine by this point, he only does movies that really interest him.
Chevy Chase: 6'4"
Chevy Chase earned his glory during his time as a cast member on Saturday Night Live back in the '70s. As he worked his way up the food chain in the industry, he landed various other roles that would make him even more known.
The problem with that is, the more well-known he became, the less liked he was as well. By the time his run on Community ended, people were throwing dirt on his name and calling the 6'4" actor a bad guy.
Liam Hemsworth: 6'3"
Chris and Liam Hemsworth were born seven years apart. Still, they have a lot of things in common. For one, Liam and Chris both still look same. Secondly, they both happen to be 6'3".
One is the star of a huge comic book based movie franchise. Meanwhile the other was a star of another huge franchise, The Hunger Games. Brothers with the same height dominating at the same thing... their parents must be beyond proud.
Donald Sutherland: 6'4"
If there is one thing we know about Donald Sutherland outside of the fact that he's 6'4" tall, then it's his uncanny ability to play elegantly tall villains. And piggybacking off Chris Hemsworth, Sutherland played the perfect villain in The Hunger Games.
The Antagonistic President Snow probably wouldn't have been better for anyone else. Sutherland really made that role what it was through his skill and intimidating height. He was the perfect nemesis for the districts.
J. Cole: 6'2"
Now a multi-platinum recording artist, J.Cole could have had a very different life had he pursued his dream of basketball in college. During Cole's time at St. John's University, he would help the women's basketball team as a "team manager" of sorts. That was after he tried to walk on to the men's team.
He tried out for the team his sophomore year and was one of the ten athletes out of 80 who tried out to receive a callback. Being that he's 6'2", Cole could have easily made basketball his choice but went with music instead.
